FAQs
Q: What type of projects will Prime Renovation undertake?
A: Prime Renovation is able to cover any type of domestic project that you have. Examples of projects are:
- Full house refurbishments
- Structural work (e.g. basements, loft conversions, side returns)
- Rectifying structural problems within a building
- New bathrooms and kitchens
- All electrical and plumbing work
- Garden design and landscaping
- Manage all administrative elements of a project including building control, architects, party wall agreements and engineers.
Q: I want to start a project but have no idea about how to manage the legal, planning, building control and engineering elements of it. Can you help?
A: Prime Renovation has a number of reputable individuals and companies that we work with who can be brought in to help with your project, whether you need an architect, a structural engineer or any other service. We are also happy to work with any other partners that you may have sourced yourself.
If required, we will also manage all legal and planning aspects of the project as we have great experience in this area so it can help to speed up the whole process.
The first step is to get in contact and to meet with you and view the project before deciding on what needs to be one and the best way to manage it.
Q: How often will I see you?
A: Either Alex or David personally manage all projects. They will be on site at least every other day to make sure that work is progressing to plan. At the beginning of any project we will decide how often you want us to update you. We usually recommend a weekly meeting on site to go over the work already done and make sure we have everything we need for the next stage. We will also keep you up to date on the phone and by email in case of any unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the project.
Q: I would like to see an example of your work before I commission you. Is this possible?
A: We are very proud of the high quality of our work and where feasible we will always try to arrange for you to see a finished project. Please be mindful of the fact that we work for private clients in their homes and so this may not always be possible. We do have a large number of client recommendations and reviews which we would be more than happy to share with you.
Q: I see that Prime Renovation is a member of the Federation of Master Builders. What does this mean?
A: Small and medium-sized building firms can apply to be a member of the FMB, a trade association established 70 years ago. Membership is granted on the basis of the recommendations of clients as well as a number of other measures. Members of the FMB have agreed to abide by their Code of Practice which ensures that customers will receive the highest quality of work. For more information visit the Federation of Master Builders.
The Planning, Design and Structural Process
Initial Visit - The process starts with a preliminary visit to discuss the potential project. Within a few days we would provide you with an estimate of cost and a time schedule.
Plans and Permissions - Our architects will then meet with you and develop a set of plans. Once these plans are completed the various permissions can be obtained. Throughout this process, which can take up to 10 weeks you will be kept informed of progress.
Structural Design - At this stage our structural engineer will visit your project and complete all structural calculations and designs.
Contracts and Project Start - A final price will be established taking in to account any changes necessary. After we agree on price and schedule, work can begin. Thoughout this whole process you will have one point of contact enabling you to get to know the project manager before construction starts.
